Raising Attainment and Progress (R.A.P.)

HAMD_RAP_Logo2015V1

Harris Academy Morden is pleased to announce the continuation of Raising Attainment and Progress Club (R.A.P Club), a programme primarily based around improving our KS3 students' academic attainment and progress.

R.A.P Club participants will attend two sessions a week from 3:00pm until 4.30pm, and progress will be reviewed following their bi-annual assessment cycle. Those selected to participate in the R.A.P Club will have failed, for whatever reason, to have achieved the progress we believe they are capable of in a number of subjects. The sessions are limited to 10 students, and in addition to guiding them to academic success, are designed to help improve the students independent learning, organisation, and communication skills.

Students will complete subject specific catch up work and be offered opportunities to complete homework tasks in order to make up progress and raise attainment. Led by the Academy’s specialist staff and with refreshments provided, we believe the R.A.P Club provides the very best opportunity for our KS3 students to achieve their potential. As places are limited and the students most in need have been selected, attendance at R.A.P club is compulsory to ensure attainment and progress levels are addressed quickly. Parents/carers must notify the school, in advance, if a student will miss a session – if this is not done, students failing to attend will be set a 90 minute detention for each session missed.

Students in R.A.P Club will be provided with clear instruction at the start of each session regarding the expectations of work they will need to complete. Students will get their work marked weekly, with coaching provided to address errors made. Students are expected to display good behaviour and a willingness to learn. Discussion with subject leaders, progress measures, attainment scores and homework grades will be measured after the half-yearly assessments in order to assess if a student has achieved sufficient attainment. If it is decided that the student’s attainment and progress has reached the desired standard, the student will have the option of leaving R.A.P club.

Parents/carers of students identified to be a part of R.A.P club will be telephoned to obtain verbal permission for the student to attend, with a follow up letter issued to inform them of the programme’s structure and expectations.
