Career Education at Harris Academy Morden

The Academy Careers provision is designed to support students to help them make appropriate choices about their future.

Students are provided with a range of activities through the PSHE / SMSC programme of assemblies, full days and external visitors to help make decisions about whom they wish to become and more importantly what they need to do to achieve these goals or aspirations.

To support the curriculum and pastoral careers education, a Careers Advisor is contracted to HAMD 20 day per year from the Trust as part of a Federation agreement with CfBT Education Services. They currently work on Friday for 20 days per year, based in room B328.

The following services are provided to our students throughout the year.

  • Individual Careers Guidance in the form of 1:1 interviews (Y11 Autumn, Y8 Spring)
  • Group Careers Interviews (grouped by profession/study route, as a result of student questionnaires completed in Autumn Term)
  • Careers Lessons in the library to all Y8 students (Summer Term)

Evaluation and individual careers plans are constructed as a result of the interviews and kept on file for future interviews.

To further support students there are visits to Universities as well as focussed assemblies or events for GCSE Options or Post 16 pathways.

In January 2018 the DFE have produced further statutory guidance for schools. This is to be implemented over a two year period between 2018 and 2020.

The Academy will work with the Harris Federation Careers team and CfBT Education services to develop our Careers Education to ensure all statutory requirements are met and exceeded.
