Design and Technology B&Q Trip

On Wednesday 30th September, our Year 10 Design and Technology class took a trip to B&Q Croydon to explore materials, stock forms and standard components.

Our annual B&Q visit gives students the opportunity to learn beyond the classroom in a real-world environment that many of them are likely to revisit in the future, if they haven't already. Seeing products, materials and components in a commercial setting helps students make valuable connections between their classroom learning and the wider world of design and manufacture.

During the visit, students had the opportunity to speak with members of staff and complete a workbook activity in the style of a treasure hunt. This encouraged them to seek out information, identify different materials and products, and gather answers as they navigated the warehouse.

The trip also provided an excellent opportunity to discuss careers in retail, construction and the trade industries, areas that many of our young designers already show a keen interest in. Students engaged well throughout the visit, asking thoughtful questions and demonstrating a growing understanding of how Design and Technology skills are applied in everyday life.
