Parent(s) wishing to appeal against the Academy’s decision on admissions, for any year group, should complete an Appeal Form (available from the bottom of the page) stating the reason for the appeal based on the published Admissions Criteria

 

Appeals Process – Harris Academy Morden 

Parents or carers who wish to appeal against Harris Academy Morden’s decision on admissions for any year group should: 

  • Complete an Appeal Form (available at the bottom of this page). 

  • State the reason for the appeal based on the published Admissions Criteria. 

If you cannot access the form online, please contact the Admissions Department, who will send you an Appeal Form to complete.

Key Dates 

  • For Year 7 admissions, completed appeal forms must be received before midday on the closing date. 

  • Closing date for appeals: 28th March 2026 

Important Information 

  • Appeals will be heard in private by an Independent Appeal Panel. 

  • The Clerk to the Appeal Panel will arrange an appointment within a reasonable timeframe. 

  • Appeals may be conducted:  In person, or online via Microsoft Teams. 

  • Only one appeal per application is permitted. 

  • Appeals lodged after the deadline will be heard within:  

  • 40 days of the appeal deadline, or 

  • 30 school days of being lodged, whichever is later. 

  • Appellants will receive: notification of the hearing date at least 10 clear school days in advance; a copy of the school’s case at least 7 clear working days before the hearing. 

The Appeal Hearing 

The Independent Appeal Panel will review: 

  • The Academy’s reasons for refusal. 

  • Your reasons for requesting a place at Harris Academy Morden. 

Panel Composition: 

  • Two members with educational experience. 

  • One independent member with no educational background. 

What the Panel Considers: 

  • The Academy’s published admission arrangements. 

  • The impact of admitting an additional student on the education and safety of current pupils. 

  • Your reasons for wanting your child to attend Harris Academy Morden. 

The Panel will balance these factors and make a decision. 
The decision of the Independent Appeal Panel is final and binding on both the Academy and the parents/carers.
