Merton School Sport Partnership (M.S.S.P.)

Harris Academy Morden supports the Merton School Sport Partnership.

The Merton School Sport Partnership aim to inspire our young people to achieve their best within sport and physical activity through the provision of high quality PE, coaching, sports leadership, extracurricular activity and competition.

The Olympics and Paralympics have left a long lasting impression on us as a nation as it certainly has inspired our generation. It is now our job to make sure this legacy continues for many years to come and in particular, for the children within the London Borough of Merton schools.

High quality sport and PE play an important role in our young people’s lives. They can have a positive impact on health and wellbeing, build self-confidence, leadership skills and competitiveness. Sport and physical activity can also play their part improving citizenship and community cohesion as well as supporting a reduction in anti-social behaviour.

Leadership: As part of the Year 8 Leadership programme, pupils are chosen to be trained as leaders over 6 weeks. Leaders are taught how to plan and deliver fun activities and games to Primary School children at an after school club held onsite. The leaders gain invaluable experience and are given the opportunity to support after school clubs in local primary schools as well as umpiring/refereeing/organising primary school tournaments and multi skills festivals. Leaders also have access to further National Governing Bodies Leadership courses such as Netball Leadership, Rounders Leadership, Mini Football Referees, Junior Football Leadership, Hockey Leadership, Rugby Leadership.

Events: MSSP host more than 40 competitions every year with the winners representing the London Borough of Merton at the London Youth Games. These competitions include Netball, Badminton, Table-Tennis, Football, Cross Country, Athletics, Basketball, Cricket, Benchball and Rounders.

Coaching: MSSP provides excellent coaches for after school clubs such as Leadership, Badminton, Basketball, Table-Tennis, Rounders, Boxing, Kick-Boxing, Tennis, Ultimate Frisbee, Football, Rugby, etc
