Ski Trip 2017

In February 2017, 24 students (accompanied by three members of staff) were lucky enough to take part in our second ever Ski Trip!

On arriving in Switzerland we were faced with very little snow so went to bed on the first night slightly nervous about whether we would be able to ski at all – lucky for us that night 50cms of snow fell and we woke up in the snow!

After a big breakfast we were split up into groups according to our abilities and had our first five hours of lessons from the ski instructors from the world famous Swiss Ski School.  In the beginners group the pace was slow but steady and there was lots of falling over but with practice everyone begun to get the hang of it.

By the third day all students were able to ski confidently down the nursery slopes and stepped up to the challenge of skiing on the bigger slopes.  Our more advanced skiers were now being taken down the hardest runs by the instructors and were really starting to enjoy the thrill of a rapid descent!   As confidence grew all our students really flourished on the slopes with some mastering backwards skiing, 360 degree spins and small jumps.

Throughout the holiday, all students worked extremely hard and demonstrated excellent team spirit in encouraging people when they felt down (literally) to get back on their skis and keep on going.  This ‘never give up’ attitude was fantastic to see and will hopefully stay with the skiers for the rest of their lives.

By the end of the week all our students were thoroughly exhausted and deserved a nice long rest – thank goodness for half term! Bring on 2018!
