Ofsted and DFE

Dear Parents and Carers

The Academy has now received the final report from the Ofsted inspection conducted in early December 2014.  A full copy of the report will be provided to your child within the next 5 days.

The Ofsted inspectors observed over twenty six lessons, met with staff, students and governors and read the responses to the Ofsted questionnaire that many parents submitted.

As parents may have seen in the National Press, the new inspection framework is rigorous and the standards expected of schools have significantly risen over the last few years.  The inspectors were therefore very thorough and left ‘no stone unturned’.

I am therefore very pleased to inform all members of our community that Harris Academy Morden is now officially a Good school with Outstanding features! The report is a glowing acknowledgement of the journey staff, students and parents / carers have taken together over the last two years.

About the Report

Each Ofsted inspection provides schools with a numbered grade (1-4) for their overall effectiveness and a grade for each of four different categories. The number system 1-4 is explained below:

Requires improvement

The four categories graded are as follows: Leadership and management; Behaviour and safety of pupils; Quality of teaching, Achievement of pupils.

As many parents will remember, the predecessor school was graded as a four (Inadequate) overall and in each separate category.

I am therefore extremely pleased to inform parents that we have achieved fantastic results in each of the identified categories, as follows:

Overall Grade

Leadership and management

Behaviour and safety of pupils

Quality of teaching

Achievement of pupils

We are very pleased with this report as it really captures the hard work of all members of staff, students, governors and parents/carers in transforming this Academy in record breaking time!

Although we are very pleased with the outcome, we are not complacent.  Our development plan was reviewed robustly by the Ofsted inspection team and they have commented that our plans for continued improvement are robust and accurate; therefore we believe we will move to secure Outstanding in the last two remaining categories in the very near future.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your continued support and look forward to a very bright future with you, here at Harris Academy Morden.

Yours faithfully

Mr Mallin
