Harris Scholars Event

Inspiring Minds: Harris Scholars Launch Event at Harris Academy Bermondsey

Four of our high-achieving students recently attended the first Harris Scholars Live Event at Harris Academy Bermondsey. This exciting opportunity is part of the Harris Scholars Programme, which offers advanced academic and enrichment experiences for students who demonstrate exceptional potential.

The event brought together like-minded scholars from across the Harris Federation for an inspiring day of learning and collaboration.

Morning Session:

Students took part in the independent learning workshop, facilitated by The Life Skills Company. The session focused on two essential skills for academic success:

  • Speed Reading – learning to read faster while maintaining comprehension, enabling students to absorb information efficiently and explore subjects in greater depth.
  • Effective Note Taking – mastering the art of making clear, structured notes from speech, a key technique for achieving top grades.

Afternoon Session:

The second part of the day was delivered by The Philosophy Foundation, the organisation that will work closely with Harris Scholars throughout the programme. This session aimed to inspire curiosity and encourage students to become more inquisitive by questioning the world around them. Students engaged in lively discussions, exchanging views on both serious philosophical dilemmas and seemingly light-hearted questions that turned out to be surprisingly thought-provoking.

Our students were deeply engaged throughout the day and demonstrated a strong commitment to the programme. They left feeling motivated to enhance their academic skills and broaden their perspectives—key steps toward outstanding success at university and beyond.
